Shapewear fit notes for different body proportions
Standard shapewear size charts are built around average proportions. If your torso is longer or shorter than average, or if your hip-to-waist ratio is significantly larger or smaller than the chart assumes, the standard size recommendation will often be wrong. These notes cover the most common proportion mismatches and how to work around them.
Long torsos and bodysuits
A bodysuit that fits well at the waist but pulls uncomfortably at the gusset is almost always a torso-length issue rather than a size issue. If you are above 170 cm, check the product fit notes for torso length before ordering. Some bodysuits are available in a long-torso configuration; others simply run short and are not suitable for taller frames regardless of size.
The fix is not always to size up. Sizing up in a bodysuit to gain torso length often means the waist panel is too loose to provide compression. Look for pieces that specify torso length in centimetres rather than just a size label.
Short torsos and high-waist pieces
High-waist briefs and shorts designed for a standard torso length will often sit above the natural waist on a shorter frame, which can be uncomfortable and visually obvious under fitted clothing. For torso lengths below 28 cm (navel to underbust), look for pieces described as 'mid-rise' rather than 'high-waist', or check whether the waistband can be folded down without affecting the compression panel.
Uneven hip-to-waist ratios
If your hip measurement is more than 28 cm larger than your waist measurement, standard shapewear sizing will often give you a piece that fits at the hip but is too loose at the waist, or fits at the waist but is too tight at the hip. In this case, size to the hip measurement and look for pieces with a separate waist panel rather than a single compression zone across the whole torso.
Waist cinchers are often a better solution than full bodysuits for this proportion, because they target the waist specifically without needing to accommodate the hip measurement in the same panel.
The fit notes on each product page in the collection include specific notes for long and short torsos where relevant. If your proportions are outside the standard range, the contact form is the most direct way to get a recommendation.
